Preparing for an MRI

Last updated 4 years ago

Magnetic resonance imaging is a sophisticated imaging procedure that allows medical professionals to see the soft tissues inside your body. The results from an MRI can provide invaluable insight into the diagnostic process and help your doctor create a personalized treatment plan. To ensure that your MRI’s results are as clear as possible, you should follow your doctor’s instructions regarding preparation.

Preparing for an MRI is very simple. Your doctor will likely tell you to eat normally before your MRI and continue taking your normal medications. On the day of your MRI, be sure to wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. You can also wear a traditional hospital gown if you choose. Since MRIs use strong magnets, you should remove all metallic accessories, including jewelry, hairpins, eyeglasses, and hearing aids. Once you’re ready, you will lie down on a movable table and enter the MRI machine.

At Brandon Regional Hospital, we use an MRI machine to aid with the diagnosis of many conditions. Call our Consult-A-Nurse line at (888) 327-2636 to find a doctor who can evaluate your health and address your concerns.
